Privacy policy

Last updated: 26 October 2026

This explains what personal information we collect through this website, why, and what we do with it. We keep it to the minimum we need to run the podcast, the newsletter and the shop.

Who we are

This website is run by Freddie Oldfield and Liam Proctor, the hosts of The Generic Foiling Podcast. We’re responsible for the personal information described here. If you have any questions, or want to use any of your rights below, email us at thegenericfoilingpod@gmail.com.

What we collect and why

If you sign up to the newsletter

We collect your email address so we can send you the newsletter. Sign-ups are handled by Mailchimp, which stores your address and tells us whether emails are opened. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of every newsletter. We rely on your consent for this.

If you buy from the shop

Payments are handled by Stripe on their own secure checkout page. Stripe collects your name, email address, delivery address and payment details. We never see or store your card details. We use your name, email and address to post your order and to deal with any questions, returns or refunds. We need this to fulfil our contract with you, and we keep order records for six years because the law requires us to keep financial records.

The website itself only keeps a note of which items were sold, so it can keep the stock count up to date. That note doesn’t include who bought them.

If you email us

If you email us, or use the contact form (which opens your own email app), we’ll have your email address, your name if you give it, and whatever you write. We use it to reply, and delete it when it’s no longer needed. This is in our legitimate interest in answering you.

Your basket

Your shop basket is saved in your own browser so it’s still there if you come back. It isn’t sent to us until you check out, and you can clear it by emptying the basket.

Cookies

We don’t use advertising or tracking cookies, and we don’t run analytics that track you around the web. If you play a YouTube video embedded on the site, it uses YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode, which doesn’t set cookies until you press play. Stripe may use cookies on its checkout page to keep payments secure and prevent fraud.

Who we share it with

We don’t sell your information or share it with anyone for marketing. We use these services to run the site, and they handle personal information on our behalf:

  • Stripe: payments and order details
  • Mailchimp: the newsletter
  • Vercel: hosts the website (like all websites, it briefly logs basic technical details such as IP addresses to keep the site running and secure)
  • Google: our email (Gmail) and the website’s fonts
  • Royal Mail or another courier: your name and address, so your order can be delivered

Some of these companies are based in the USA. When your information leaves the UK, they protect it using the safeguards UK law requires, such as the UK–US data bridge or approved contract terms.

Your rights

You have the right to ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to us using it, and to withdraw your consent (for example, by unsubscribing from the newsletter). Just email us at thegenericfoilingpod@gmail.com. We’ll reply within a month.

If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk. We’d appreciate the chance to sort it out first, though.

Changes

If we change this policy, we’ll update it here and change the date at the top.

Incredibly infrequent news, written mainly by Freddie and sometimes by Liam.

Buy us a beer token

Enjoy the pod? Rate us 5 stars, and if you fancy it, chuck a few quid our way. It mostly goes on beers, and the rest goes towards our next trips for more episodes.
