Kernow Foil Classic 2026 - The OFFICIAL Debrief w/ Chris Burke

Spotify Apple Podcasts YouTube

What we talk about

  • Debrief of the fourth Kernow Foil Classic, recorded after a parawing session at Daymer Bay, looking back at five days of conditions at Gwithian
  • Why it's built around community: amateurs and pros mixing, a social every night and a new Groms category
  • The invitational parawing downwind run at a quiet beach: ten riders, two runs each filmed by drone, then a vote by the public and judges at the Friday social
  • Foil assist day in huge swell at Gwithian, and how the event handled it with the riders who were left
  • Wing day, the judging team, live heat scoring software, and Chris running it more like a project manager, down to food and cakes for the volunteers
  • The early Saturday start, prone and wing finals finishing at sunset, judges rewatching the final heat on video and the podium on the cliff
  • Why the media team's polished clips and drone coverage worked better than a live stream, and the Slingshot and Duotone road trip videos
  • Plans for 4th to 10th October 2027: growing from about 120 to 350 people on the list, parking and numbers, a possible seven day window and an optional night off

About this episode

We knew we had to meet up quick to record a debrief and ‘deload' from what was a very intense week at the start of October - and a decent forecast midweek at Daymer Bay gave us the perfect setting. An epic parawing session in great conditions, followed by a smash burger and beer at Bluntrock Brewery to see out our evening catch up.

The fourth year of the Kernow Foil Classic saw Chris raise the bar considerably with his grass roots foil comp he's been organising, and unless you've been under a rock you might've seen bits and pieces all over social media for the last couple weeks. We got a lot of compliments about this, but actually it was all Chris and his media team pumping out videos with our faces plastered on them.

Enjoy this - Chris is a good mate and it was awesome to see him in full flow during the event - which absolutely went off. We were all was too exhausted and dazed to record anything like this on the Sunday of the event and hopefully a few days of winding down was what was needed to put some logical thoughts down for you guys all to hear.

Whether you were at the event and curious to know what was going on behind the scenes, or watching the socials from the other side of the world - we've no doubt you'll enjoy this episode.

For those of you wanting to get involved next year - the dates are already secured for 4th-10th October 2027.
